D O U B L E L I F E ;

Being the (probably unarguably) best detective known to mankind, L has gone by the alias of "L" whenever contacting the muggle or wizard authorities. He has also gone by the names of "Erald Coil" and "Danuve" (conveniently the second and third best detectives in the world), but either way, this causes complications for when he attends school. Most professors go by without suspicion when he signs up for his classes, but for the few that do manage to happen by the connection between their prized 'Ryuzaki' and the detective 'L,' Watari's memory charms become extremely useful. The only person as of now who knows of L's double identity in the school is the headmaster, Professor Dumbledore--and as of now he is the only one who has L's trust. Not that they talk often.

To the other students, he is the sweets-and-shortcake-crazed Ravenclaw genius who doesn't wear shoes and rarely wears anything aside from his white long-sleeve and baggy jeans. He remains distant in his so called "relationships" (see The L Files below) and never trusts any of the other students. When he suspects someone he will go to without rest (...) to root them out. His skills with all sorts of technology has made his hacking prowess something to be marveled at.

B A C K G R O U N D ;

L was raised in a British orphanage called "Wammy's House" for the first leg of his life. The orphanage was run by an old man called Watari, who became the closest thing that L had as a parent for his entire life. Wammy's House, however, was far from a normal orphanage. The House was also an educational facility that served and taught only the brightest children known to man, and each child was slowly trained to become some of the world's best and brightest citizens. As L grew older, his skills of deduction and logical prowess became clearer and clearer to the adults and teachers of the House. The owners of Wammy's House decided that L would be able to contribute greatly to society if he was trained to become a detective. Once L was eight, he participated in his first case, involving a string of murders in Los Angeles, California. Watari, the founder of Wammy's House, had taken a great deal of liking to the boy and decided that he would accompany L throughout his travels and take care of him. They tackled case after case, L solving them one by one without so much as batting an eyelid (though to tell the truth, L is also affected by insomnia. He refuses to call himself a 'victim' or 'sufferer' of the condition; he simply insists that it helps him solve cases faster since he considers sleeping a waste of time).

When L was eleven, a letter caught him and Watari between cases. It was the letter from Hogwarts-- the esteemed school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For some families, the receiving of the letter is a difficult time full of discussion, controversy, and disbelief. For L and Watari, it was a simple matter. Watari asked, "L, do you want to go to this school?" L hardly looked up from his cake when he responded, "Yes." He figured that solving these cases with a magical edge on his side would be very helpful, and of course, extremely interesting.

Since he's a student by day and detective by night (and sometimes day, too.), he has refused to tell anyone else his real name due to security reasons and trust issues. Only Watari, the other children and students at Wammy's House, and L's teachers know his true name-- L Lawliet. To other students, he insists that his name is "Ryuzaki."

In terms of appearance, L is somewhat... peculiar. He has horrible posture-- he's got a well-defined slump whether he's sitting down or standing up. His dark black hair is a bit long for a boy and is terribly mussed and unkempt. He is always seen wearing the same long-sleeved white shirt and baggy jeans, and it takes a remarkable amount of energy and willpower for him to force himself to put on a cloak over his clothes for school. He appears as if he is always wearing eyeliner, but what appears to be dark black smudges under his eyelids are actually permanent bags that he has developed over the years due to his insomnia. He also has a great disliking for shoes-- if he is ever forced to wear shoes, he uses a pair of run-down, grass-stained tennis shoes. He's also severely underweight, yet he eats like a pig. His sweet tooth is insatiable, and he only eats candies, cake, desserts, and fruits (he claims that when one uses their brain properly, calories are burnt). Despite his disheveled appearance, he has an extremely strong sense of justice. Being a detective, he believes in protecting the weak and defenseless and ensuring that those who have wronged pay for their sins. There has not yet been a case that L was unable to solve; he’s practically a legend amongst muggle and wizard authorities alike.

Not that any student in the school knows.

He is currently a 6th year in Hogwarts and is the star student of almost all of his classes. His quick and sharp mind has earned him all O's on his O.W.L. exams (not that he has told this to anyone; L isn't really a braggart). His least favorite class is Herbology (a history of plant bites and strangely colored rashes are the source of this dislike). He enjoys wizard chess but hates losing.
